My Latest Grocery Haul (COVID-19 Edition)

My Latest Grocery Haul (COVID-19 Edition)

I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy right now.

If you’ve gone grocery shopping lately, I’m guessing the shelves looked pretty bare for you too.

I went to multiple stores last weekend and they were completely out of staple foods I get regularly like jasmine rice, eggs, chicken, and turkey.

While part of me wanted to use this as an excuse to tell my nutrition coach, “Sorry, couldn’t meet my macros ‘cause we ‘had’ to order pizza every night…”

I realized there were still a lot of healthy things that WERE available.

To help with your shopping, I thought I’d share the items that made up my grocery haul with what was left. Of course items that are in or out of stock may differ for your local store, but hopefully it will give you an idea or two for something you may have not thought of.

PROTEINS

  • Canned tuna & salmon
  • Canned chicken
  • Sardines (While not everyone loves the taste, these are an excellent source of omega-3s. I always mean to eat more of them, so this was a good reminder to add them back into my diet. Here are 14 ways to eat ‘em.)
  • Egg whites
  • Chuck roast (to make in the crockpot for several dinners)
  • Frozen fish (tilapia and ahi steaks)

CARBS

  • Gluten-free quick oats
  • Rice cakes (great for a quick pre- & post-workout snacks)
  • Quinoa
  • Yukon gold + sweet potatoes (I got extra since these keep a long time, especially when refrigerated.)

FRUITS & VEGGIES

  • Apples
  • Kiwi (These little superfruits are loaded with vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber.)
  • Frozen berries
  • Bell peppers
  • Mixed greens
  • Kale salad mix (to toss with the mixed greens for a quick salad)
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts

OTHER

  • Primal Kitchen Avocado Mayo & pickle relish (for a super fast tuna or salmon salad)
  • Nuun immunity tablets
  • Vitamin drink packets
  • Broth (for the chuck roast)

And if you’re still having trouble finding good protein options, here are two websites I’ve ordered meat from before and may order again from: US Wellness Meats, White Oak Pastures. After a quick search, it looks like they still have some items in stock.

Lastly, how can I help you along your health journey during these strange times?

Seriously, please let me know! Simply contact me here to share any struggles or questions — coronavirus related or not. I’m here to help you however I can.
