A Day of Eating Low Fat for Weight Loss

To continue the topic in last week’s video, I thought I’d share a recent full day of eating since I’ve been in a fat loss phase myself.

This day is an example of a low fat, high-ish carb approach to weight loss. I’m fairly active and regularly CrossFit, run, and lift, so eating this way helps me still fuel with carbs for workouts.

Now, I have to preface this with a few things…

  • Of course, everyone’s different. This most likely isn’t exactly what’s right for you. Your overall amount food will vary, and you may do better with a different balance of carbs and fat as I explained in last week’s video.
  • While low fat diets can be effective for weight loss, they’re not optimal for hormonal health. So I wouldn’t recommend eating really low fat for too long.
  • For some context, the total calories and macros for this day were approximately: 140 g protein, 150 g carbs, 36 g fat, 1484 calories.
  • My maintenance calories are around 1900 to 2000 per day, so this is really low for me! I’ve found I have to get pretty aggressive in order to see change. Because of that, and my history with adrenal fatigue, I have been doing refeed days and diet breaks to keep my metabolism from adapting and my hormones healthy. I also haven’t been doing long, intense workouts on days my calories are extra low.

All that being said, I know seeing examples can be really helpful. Hopefully this gives you some ideas to apply to your own diet, whether or not you want to try eating low fat.


Breakfast

eggs, egg whites, turkey, mushrooms, kale + oatmeal, berries

Lunch

chicken, arugula, cabbage, tomatoes, microgreens, apple cider vinegar, olive oil + sweet potato

Afternoon Snack

toasted sprouted-grain english muffin, fat-free ricotta cheese, marinara sauce, turkey bacon

Dinner

lean ground beef, jasmine rice, asparagus, bell pepper, sesame seeds, chili garlic sauce, coconut aminos
