5 Ways to Boost Immunity

5 Ways to Boost Immunity

With the coronavirus still making headlines and flu season continuing to linger, I wanted to share simple tips to boost your immune system naturally.

#1  Keep your gut happy.

Did you know your gut houses 70% of the cells that make up your immune system? To make sure the system is strong, keep your gut flora balanced and healthy by taking probiotics or eating natural sources of them like yogurt, kefir, and kombucha. (There are a lot of good probiotics out there, but one brand I like is Jarrow Formulas.)

#2  Eat your vitamins.

Eating plenty of fresh, whole foods will arm you with virus-fighting nutrients, especially vitamins A and C. Foods high in vitamin A include eggs, grass-fed butter, spinach, bone broth, and cod liver oil while bell peppers, kale, broccoli, and sweet potato are rich in vitamin C.

#3  Drink immune-boosting teas and tonics.

Supplements like Nuun immunity tablets and herbal teas like green, chamomile and echinacea  are easy, on-the-go sources of antioxidants and immune support.

#4  Load up on vitamin Zzz.

Nothing can replace a good night’s sleep when it comes to keeping your immune system strong. Aim for a minimum of 7 hours per night or 49 hours per week, meaning you can make up hours if you need to and still get the benefits.

#5  Arm yourself with zinc-rich foods.

Along with being a powerful antioxidant, zinc has been shown to fight infection and treat colds. Foods rich in zinc include pumpkin and hemp seeds, grass-fed beef, chickpeas, lentils, cashews, spinach, mushrooms, and cocoa powder.
